How To Get My Attention

Ideas and suggestions... hmm, seems like such a great idea for a forum.. right! Well.. sort of. I have always read these forums, in fact I have probably read just about every topic posted in this section. Most of what I read is well.. junk. Not that it is a poor idea, but rather that it wouldn't fit into SourceForts. So I write to you guys in order to better inform you on how to grab my attention with an awesome idea.

To start with, use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. If you can't bother to put the effort in in order to write English the way it was meant to be written why should I bother to put to effort into reading your idea? I am a real stickler for this. Not saying that I won't read a poorly written idea, I'm just saying that I am much more compelled to read a well written one.

Organize your idea! Do not throw make your idea appear as if you have cut and pasted different sentences into a paragraph. Start out saying what the main purpose of your idea is, what it does / how it functions, and then give a brief summary. This way I already know what you are trying to sell before even having read 10% of it.

Lastly, and most importantly, think to yourself. "Does this idea make sense in the gameplay environment that is Sourceforts?" For a great example of an idea that fits all these criteria read this post by Disturber.

Alternatively, throw a shoe at him. That ought to grab his attention.

Post of what you read? Thanks for the lesson in grammer and spelling :P.

Lol i dont see why Grammer and punctuation is such a big thing, when sumone posts an idea, there whole point of the idea is it will give you sumthing to think about, then possibly adding/changing to the mod based on that post (or following comments).

I wouldnt mind if sumone handed me a piece of toilet roll, with an idea scribbled in chicker scratching, as long as it was a really good idea :D.

You shouldnt be so quick to dismiss an idea because of poor grammer, spelling or punctuation, afterall you don't have to have good writing skills to have a talented imagination.

oh and like Kushan says, a shoe will be more than effective at grabbing sumones attention, only not to sure if it will be safe for you after hehe.

Gto, your spelling put me off reading that halfway through.

I personally don't give people the time of day when they can't simply spell words like someone or grammar correctly, its just plain apathy.

So what you guys trying to say? you both so arrogant and bigheaded that unless i speak perfect (or in this case spell) english, you dont see it fit that i should have a say? If thats the case good luck to you in your social life. You can throw spellathon parties, or grammartically correct conferences, or what ever gets you hard.

DJ_Monkey_Pilot 04-01-2006 01:21 AM

It's no different to having a conversation with someone and having them mumble at you, it just requires extra effort to get what they are trying to say and it is considered impolite.

Gto 04-01-2006 02:57 AM

I can see why you see it as impolite, but that just your opinion on this topic, not everyones opinion though.

As to saying bad spelling and grammer is the same as mumbleing in a conversation, i fail to see the link. When sumone mumbles you don't hear them clearly, or understand what they were attempting to say, but when sumone has bad grammer or spelling, you still get what it is they are trying to write about, just might take you a bit longer to decipher the mixed up grammer (and thats only in the most extream cases of bad grammer). Generaly you will understand it 100% fine, with nothing other than a giggle at the mistakes they made.

If this is your stance, good luck getting taken seriously in life. The rationale of this post is that the administrators of the site are going to assume that if you can't be bothered to spell correctly or use correct grammar, than you must not care about your idea. Think about it, which kind of post do you take more seriusly? Something like:

solder needs 2 b fastr u cant get enuff kills sumun shud change it

Or the well-thought out post made by disturber.

That is a hideous exageration. The line between perfect grammar and english and knowing how to spell "someone" is not a fine one.

hahaha amen my brother i think its alot funnier to post a badly spelt and laid out post and wait for the first know it all to come and post his thoughts which always amounts to something hillarius about how important paragraphs are to the modern post maker, its just an idea treat it as such not as an entrence to some sort of gramathon not everyone who posts thinks they are the perfect english student or is trying to say they are by posting some people just cant spell is that such a crime i can think of worse (like going round forums looking for badly spelt or laid out posts so you can try and look like a big man for correcting them) great you can spell now everyone knows you can relax
